Quality Hand Crafted Log & Timber Frame Homes

  INITIAL STEPS:   A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS:

- Contact Kawdy Mountain Homes to begin putting your ideas on to paper.

- With a basic idea and discussed options, we can give you an estimated price.
   - Once your home style, size & options have been determined according to your desired
budget, Kawdy Mountain Homes will have your blueprints drawn up, or you
can have them drawn up by your own draftsman.

- From the finished plans, a final cost will be given and a contract drawn up.
   - Owner to determine preparation time to have property ready for arrival of log package
and representative.  (For the average size log shell, the time required for building in the
log yard is from 6-10 weeks.)  The log shell will need to be re-assembled on a completed
subfloor or a finished concrete slab.  In some circumstances, exterior decks may need to
be completed to re-assemble the log shell.

  STEPS IN CONSTRUCTION:

- The first stage of the construction of your log home begins in the forest where house
logs are hand-selected to ensure the very best quality.
     - The logs are trucked to the log yard for the building process to begin.
     - The first step is to hand-peel the bark and cambium layer using a drawknife.
     - Blocks are laid out to start construction of the log shell.
     - Bottom round of logs is slabbed and set on the blocks.
     - Log walls are built to header height.  Each round of logs is full-scribed using a
Norwegian saddle notch in the corners to ensure a tight fit.  Fibreglass insulation is used
       in the laterals.
     - Before the headers are scribed into place, windows and doorways are cut out, notched
       back and flared.
     - Log beams and log floor joists are installed for homes with and upper living area.

- All top wall logs are slabbed to correct roof pitch to accept owner's roofing material.
     - Installation of log stairs and handrail.
     - Construction of log gable walls or log posts, building and installation of log trusses and
setting of the log roof system.
     - Electrical box openings are cut out.  (Electrical drill holes are made as package is
       disassembled for loading.)
     - End curls are cut, sanded and chamfered.
     - Just prior to loading, the entire log shell is sanded.
     - Log shell, log stairs and railing (and window and door package if purchasing) are
disassembled and loaded onto flat-deck trailers.  (We will arrange trucks to haul log
package to owners site, but trucking cost are not part of the contract quote, and
payment is due by the owner to the trucking company on delivery.)
     - Re-assembly of log shell at owner's prepared site.  A representative of Kawdy Mountain
Homes will be present to supervise the procedure.  (Owner is responsible
for supplying a crane and a minimum crew of 5 people, 2 of who must be capable of
working on log walls and setting the log roof system.)
